Here is the 2nd Amendment using the definition of the words at the time of adoption.
A WELL REGULATED (well versed in the use of arms against an enemy) MILITIA (all able bodied citizens over 16 years old) , being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of THE PEOPLE (individual Americans) to keep and BEAR (carry & own/posses) ARMS (any weapon that can be carried by a single person), shall not be infringed (to break the force of, diminish the strength of; to weaken, enfeeble, impair; to mitigate.)
The 3 main reasons the 2nd was adopted was:
1; protection of self & family.
2; protection against foreign enemies.
3; protection against the gov if it didn't follow the Constitution, a means to overthrow it. YES, this DID mean killing members of the gov who violated your rights. Just research primary sources.
