Oath Keepers is assisting in the legal defense of Marine Corps Sgt. Gary Stein, who is facing military administrative proceedings to separate him from the Marine Corps, with his commanding officer requesting that he be separated with an other than honorable conditions discharge.  This is all because Sgt. Stein dared to found the Armed Forces Tea Party Facebook page, and because, on a separate Facebook page run by someone else, in a discussion thread conversation with other Marines, Sgt. Stein strongly expressed his opposition to some of Obama’s unconstitutional policies and expressed his intent to refuse unlawful orders.

We consider this attempt to kick a nine-year career Marine Sergeant out of the Marine Corps, for the “crime” of using modern social media tools to have a conversation with other Marines about serious concerns that impact his oath, and for the “offense” of daring to participate in the Tea Party movement, to be a travesty.
I (Stewart Rhodes) and Oath Keepers General Counsel David Rivers (a Marine Vietnam combat veteran), have volunteered our services as attorneys to assist Sgt. Stein pro bono and we have helped to assemble an excellent civilian legal defense team to work with and assist Sgt. Stein’s military JAG lawyer team.
Sgt. Stein was given written notification of administrative separation proceedings last Wednesday, March 21, 2012, but because all of the JAG officers were at a previously scheduled conference, he was not able to attain JAG counsel till last Friday, March 23.  With the separation hearing scheduled for this coming Saturday, March 31, 2012, that hardly provides time to prepare a defense, but unless we can secure a continuance, we will have to soldier on and be as ready as we can by this Saturday.  I am planning on being there for the hearing.
Once Sgt. Stein made it clear he wanted civilian counsel to work with his JAG attorneys, we arranged a conference call with the JAG attorneys last Friday.  I invited the well regarded constitutional attorneys William J. Olson and Herb Titus to join that call.  Olson and Titus were part of the defense team for Specialist Michael New in his historic stand against serving under U.N. command, and they are top notch lawyers. On that conference call it became readily apparent that Sgt. Stein has an excellent military JAG defense team.  They are sharp, competent, and very dedicated to defending Sgt. Stein, as part of keeping their oaths to defend the Constitution.   They are also very willing to work with civilian counsel as part of a combined legal team.  Sgt. Stein is in good hands.
Yesterday, March 26, Mr. Olson brought in Houston, Texas attorney Mark Brewer, who is a former JAG officer.   As a former JAG, Mr. Brewer will be the lead civilian defense counsel with the rest of us assisting, with our civilian legal team working closely with the Marine Corps JAG defense team.  Also on the civilian team will be attorney Gary Kreep, Executive Director of the United States Justice Foundation.
Mr. Kreep will help set up a tax deductible legal defense fund for Sgt. Stein’s legal defense.  Once that legal defense fund is established, we will email the details on how you can contribute directly to his legal defense, if you want to.
As noted above, whatever work I or Oath Keepers General Counsel David Rivers may do on this case will be pro bono (no charge) but Sgt. Stein will have to pay for Mr. Brewer’s services (at a reduced rate) and likewise may have to pay for other civilian counsel and of-counsel attorneys on this case, as well as court costs and travel expenses, so he will certainly need donations to help him cover those fees and costs.  So, once Sgt. Stein and Mr. Kreep have the tax deductible legal defense fund established, I would encourage you all to donate to it if you can.   Just to be clear, that fund will not be run by Oath Keepers, so if you want to donate to Sgt. Stein’s legal defense in particular, please wait until he establishes his own defense fund.   Our legal defense fund for Oath Keepers will remain separate.
I will send another update soon, and we will be posting additional articles and documents on the Oath Keepers website, along with our own original research and writing, over the coming days and weeks.   I do encourage you to spread the word about this case, and to put public pressure on the Marine Corps to do the right thing by retaining this fine young Marine.   Especially useful would be letters of support from leaders of veterans’ organizations, as well as from individuals.  We will post an example letter for your use, in case you want to send one in, and we will email that example to our list, once it is finished.
You can count on Oath Keepers to do all we can to help Sgt. Stein in his stand for the Constitution.  Doing so is part of keeping our own oaths.  This case is about the rights of free speech, assembly, and association, the right to comment on candidates for office and current issues, about the citizen’s duty of civic involvement, and about the duty of service members to defend the Constitution by refusing unlawful orders that violate the Constitution (which is the reason Oath Keepers exists).  This is not about partisan politics or any one candidate.  The ACLU, to their credit, stood up for Sgt. Stein in the past and is likely to do so now as well.  We certainly hope they do, because this is not a partisan issue.  This is about being Americans and defending our Constitution, and especially the First Amendment, for all Americans, in the military and outside the military, regardless of their political orientation.   It’s not about the left or right, but about our Bill of Rights.
Let’s take a firm stand in defense of this young Marine.

The EMP Commission was established pursuant to title XIV of the Floyd D. Spence National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (as enacted into law by Public Law 106-398; 114 Stat. 1654A-345). Duties of the EMP Commission include assessing:

1. the nature and magnitude of potential high-altitude EMP threats to the United States from all potentially hostile states or non-state actors that have or could acquire nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles enabling them to perform a high-altitude EMP attack against the United States within the next 15 years;
2. the vulnerability of United States military and especially civilian systems to an EMP attack, giving special attention to vulnerability of the civilian infrastructure as a matter of emergency preparedness;
3. the capability of the United States to repair and recover from damage inflicted on United States military and civilian systems by an EMP attack; and
4. the feasibility and cost of hardening select military and civilian systems against EMP attack.

The Commission is charged with identifying any steps it believes should be taken by the United States to better protect its military and civilian systems from EMP attack.
Multiple reports and briefings associated with this effort have been produced by the EMP Commission including an Executive Report (PDF, 578KB) and a Critical National Infrastructures Report (PDF, 7MB) describing findings and recommendations.
The EMP Commission was reestablished via the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 to continue its efforts to monitor, investigate, make recommendations, and report to Congress on the evolving threat to the United States from electromagnetic pulse attack resulting from the detonation of a nuclear weapon or weapons at high altitude.

When it was announced that talk radio powerhouse “Mancow” Muller would be featured in two one-hour Fox TV specials called “Mancow TV Worldwide,” the radio host specifically requested that WND senior reporter Jerome Corsi be his first guest. Corsi, a two-time No. 1 New York Times bestselling author and Harvard Ph.D., was set to discuss Iran and Israel, as well as globalism.

When Fox was setting up the time for Corsi to be interviewed on Muller’s debut show, he was specifically prohibited by the show’s producers from discussing anything to do with the constitutional eligibility questions still plaguing Obama.

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S 1980 REGISTRATION CARD

(Phoenix, AZ) Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has sent a letter to the Director of the U.S. Selective Service System headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. The Sheriff is asking the agency to conduct an investigation of Barack Obama’s Selective Service registration form from 1980 after the preliminary findings of the Sheriff’s six-monthlong investigation determined that it may be a forgery.

The letter also asked Director Lawrence Romo to produce the original form so forensic document examiners can analyze the document to determine if it is authentic. (letter attached)

Because of inconsistencies on the form itself including an unusually incomplete date stamp, Sheriff’s investigators suspect the form, which was allegedly filled out in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1980, may be a forgery.

Sheriff’s investigators were able to replicate the alleged forgery by obtaining a circa 1980 pica stamp and a circa “2008” date plug. Investigators were able to clearly demonstrate the “80” (which should have actually read 1980) in Obama’s Selective Service Registration form resulted from cutting out the “08” from an authentic “2008” date plug, and inverting the “08” to read “80” when the cut plug was loaded into the year slot on the 1980 pica stamp. Sheriff Arpaio is asking Director Romo to respond to him within 30 days on whether or not his national office will provide the Sheriff with the original document and if his office will move forward with an investigation of its own. Lawrence Romo, who was appointed as Director to the U.S. Selective Service System in 2009 by President Obama, reports directly to the President.

“While my office will continue pursuing this investigation, I have spoken of the need to enlist the aid of other agencies. As a first step to that end, I am now requesting the assistance of the U.S. Selective Service System asking them to conduct a concurrent investigation to verify the authenticity of this document,” Arpaio says. Arpaio says he foresees the need to ask for the assistance of other agencies as well to ultimately determine whether the President’s birth certificate and Selective Service registration form are in fact forgeries.

“Failure to register or otherwise comply with the Selective Service registration process is a serious offense,” Arpaio says. “The law says a person who fails to register can end up with a $250,000 fine, five years imprisonment and is ultimately prohibited from holding any job in government.”

Arpaio, a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. Army, believes strongly in the importance of registering for the selective service. He even started a program in 2004 to encourage inmates, including non-U.S. citizens, to register. Since then, about 40,000 inmates including 9,000 non U.S. citizens have registered for the selective service. END

"On Dennis Miller’s radio show Thursday Lord Christopher Monckton, a former policy adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and an activist against global warming “alarmism,” went all-in on questioning President Barack Obama’s citizenship.

“I mean, hey you got a president who has a false birth certificate on the Internet, on the White House website,” Monckton said. “It’s not even clear where he was born. You’ve got a national debt which is rising into the stratosphere. You’ve got unemployment certainly here in California at 11 percent, 50 percent in the construction industry. These are real problems. You’ve got real environmental problems — overfishing, deforestation, pollution, not so much in the west but certainly in other countries. These are real problems which ought to be addressed. You’ve got poverty. You’ve got disease. These are again serious problems in Africa for instance, that we could be helping with. But no, we’re obsessed with making the rich even richer and making the absolute bankers richer still by going for global warming and cap-and-trade and other nonsenses of this kind.”"

"Miller protested by saying he disagreed with the suggestion that Obama has a fraudulent birth certificate. But Monckton dug in his heels.

“I don’t know whether he is Kenyan or not,” Monckton said. “The point is that if I were you, I would want to make absolutely sure that he was born here before allowing him to be elected. And the birth certificate that he put up on that website, I don’t know where he was born. But I do know that birth certificate isn’t genuine.”"

Painting is an art form that often allows the artist to present an opinion. The latest work by artist Jon McNaughton does just that, portraying President Barack Obama burning the constitution in “One Nation Under Socialism” which has drawn its far share of detractors. McNaughton describes the new painting on his Facebook page:

“’I pledge allegiance to the United States of America,
And not to an ideology, which can never stand,
One nation under socialism, divisive,
With no liberty or justice for anyone.’
This November, you will make a choice. Will you choose One Nation Under Socialism?”

The painting has already drawn over 700 shares and over 1,200 comments.
“I think what you are doing is bold and should be seen/heard by all Americans!!!” writes commenter Tamara Thomas. “Dead-on! A picture that says what our mainstream media will not,” says Vincent Brusio.
But not every commenter was a fan.
“I would love to see a painting like this of Romney and his Bain Capital Wall Street cronies laughing and stuffing money in their mouths as they rip off all the gullible right-wing dupes who think SOCIALISM for the rich fat cats who looted our country (not to mention the world economy is perfectly fine,” writes John Wages. “Grow up,” Billy Bey says simply.
New York Magazine Art Critic Jerry Saltz told CBSDC that the painting contained “bad academic derivative realism,” calling it “typical propaganda art, drop-dead obvious in message” and “visually dead as a doornail.”
“It panders and preaches to the converted and tells them what they already believe,” Saltz told CBSDC. “It has no graphic power of its own. It simply attempts to crawl into the body of that sort of illustration.”
McNaughton told CBSDC that he hopes his painting will get the “public talking about what the painting represents. Is Obama pushing a Socialist agenda on the American people?”
McNaughton further explained his painting in a video on Youtube:
McNaughton has previously painted the president stomping on the Constitution and a similar pledge painting illustrating one nation under God.

Socialism uses the illusion of offering fairness and justice for everyone by redistributing the wealth of the nation; picking and choosing winners and losers.  This administration has taken over our health care system, given bailouts to the automotive industry, banking industry and energy industry.  They support the “Occupy Wall Street” movement of increased taxing of the rich to pay for the welfare of the “less rich.”  The Constitution never guaranteed equal things—only equal rights and justice.  In America we should be FREE TO SUCCEED and FREE TO FAIL! 

At this very moment our Constitution is literally going up in flames.  What will you do to preserve the Constitution and save America?

New video of Eric Holder from 1995 has surfaced, and it may put “Fast and Furious” in a much broader perspective.
Recorded on CSPAN2, the clip shows current Attorney General Eric Holder laying out a strategy to “change the hearts and minds of the people in Washington, DC” in how they look at guns.
“What we need to do is change the way in which people think about guns, especially young people, and make it something that’s not cool, that it’s not acceptable, it’s not hip to carry a gun anymore, in the way in which we changed our attitudes about cigarettes.”
Though it’s no surprise that Eric Holder is anti-gun, critics are saying that his proposed initiatives go too far.  Among other things, Holder suggested that there be some form of hotline you could call if see a gun, or have any “information” about one.
He also said that the school board should have some form of anti-violence or anti-gun message every day.  “Every day, every school, at every level,” he stated.
Last, Holder admitted that his proposal is “brainwashing.”
“We have to be repetitive about this,” he said.  “We need to do this every day of the week, and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way.”

Holder has recently come under fire for “Operation Fast and Furious,” where guns were sold to Mexican drug cartels but not properly tracked.  The operation resulted in hundreds of deaths, including that of a U.S. Border patrol agent.  Critics of the Attorney General claim that the operation was intended to create horrific gun violence, allowing the U.S. government to tighten gun control regulations.

Our Unsecured Boarder - Clear and Present Danger to America

I have noticed a similarity between our ROE (Rules of Engagement) for our American Boarder Patrol Agents and those used in Afghanistan and other places over seas forced upon our American Warriors (Military).
In Afghanistan and Pakistan their Governments Have Obvious sympathy to the Taliban and Al queda and other terror militant factions as a result they leave the boarder area  in the North East Uncontrolled, In Pakistan its decreed that Boarder control authorities "Can operate on tarmac rds and only 20 meters on either side of the road" Beyond that Anything goes. So by a purposefully WEAK patrol they allow the Evil bad guys to attack those fighting for Freedom in the region and our Warriors.
In America we find Sec. Napolitano Guilty with the White House and others who by their history of actions or inaction obvious sympathy to all Illegals, Taliban, Al queda, Drug Cartels, All Criminals who come across America's boarders at will Our Boarder is NOT Secure! as the Obama administration Falsely claims. The ROE are designed to put our BPA at risk of life and injury their hands are tied, The rules requiring first use of bean-bag ammunition is but one example of the suicidal rules of engagement that govern Border Patrol operations. The reason they have such insane rules? The politicians who run the agency do not want the public to think the border is so dangerous a place that Border Patrol agents fear for their lives. In other words, the rules of engagement are based on a lie, a lie that must be maintained for political purposes. First, she should order all Border Patrol agents to be issued weapons adequate for both self-defense and apprehension of armed drug smugglers. The second thing she should do is resign. How many of our military have been wounded Killed because of such Rules, our BPA are getting killed due to them, our American citizens as well.
When you have the current DOJ trying BPA's for doing their job and using the Criminals as their evidence and witness testimony of these Evil people to sentence them to prison for shooting armed criminals. Hundreds of Thousands of crimes as murder, theft, rape, etc occur each year by these evil people we must secure the boarder. Let those in Congress, Senate, White House know you want it done NOW. Hundreds if not thousands of terrorists have set up over 40 known training camps in America more come daily and we do nothing. There will be attacks in our cities just a matter of time.
When the DOJ, Environmentalists, others Forbid our BPA's to patrol area's due to environmental issues, but the criminals & Terrorists can do and go where over they desire where is the sanity in that? They know where we can and cannot go based on our Wash. DC. Politicians who love their power at the expense of our nations security. They are in violation of their Oaths of office by allowing on purpose such a dangerous and violent boarder, it is a clear and present danger to American's.
If the leadership does NOT want to secure our safety at the boarder then It is a matter of Treason for NOT following their Oaths of office. It is the same as if during WW2 if the Leadership of America allowed Nazi or Japan troops to freely enter America, Germany attempted this, the terrorists are following their past example and have been successful at it. Another Border Patrol agent on the Arizona border was shot and killed by Mexican drug smugglers last Tuesday. Of the eight attackers, four are in custody and a fifth is under surveillance by Border Patrol Blackhawk helicopters as he tries to make his way back to the Mexican border.
BP Agent Brian Terry was part of a BORTAC team (for border tactical unit) tracking armed drug smugglers 15 miles northwest of Nogales, Ariz., (and only three miles west of Interstate 19) when they were attacked with automatic weapons fire. The area is well-known as a major drug-smuggling corridor, and the smugglers are known to frequently be armed with AK-47s and other long rifles.

Here’s the part Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Border Patrol management are trying to hide: Border Patrol Agent Terry and the BORTAC team were under standing orders to always use (“non-lethal”) bean-bag rounds first before using live ammunition. When the smugglers heard the first rounds, they returned fire with real bullets, and Agent Terry was killed in that exchange. Real bullets outperform bean bags every time.
The larger, ugly truth Napolitano and senior managers in the Border Patrol want to hide is that the rules of engagement and inadequate weaponry of the Border Patrol place the lives of all agents at grave risk. The National Border Patrol Council, which represents over 15,000 field agents, believes the border is too dangerous for officers to patrol without body armor, armored vehicles and automatic weapons.

Another aspect of this story that is not being reported is that the site of the shooting, Peck Canyon, is inside the area Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., has proposed to designate as the Tumacacori Highlands Wilderness reserve. If Grijalva’s bill is enacted into law, what is now a well-established drug smuggling corridor will become a drug-smuggling superhighway, because the Border Patrol will be prohibited from patrolling the region. Rep. Rob Bishop of Utah has proposed legislation that will remove the restrictions on Border Patrol jurisdiction on such public lands within 50 miles of the border.
On Thursday, Secretary Napolitano and several aides flew to Tucson to meet with local Border Patrol brass. The Obama administration obviously has a mess on its hands, and Napolitano does not want it to blow up before today’s U.S. Senate vote on the Dream Act. They know another murder on the southwest border will not help garner needed votes for the Dream Act, because senators supporting that bill must be able to say with a straight face, “The border is as secure as it has ever been.”
The BORTAC team encountered not one or two smugglers but a team of eight. Four are in custody, one is under surveillance in the rugged terrain of the Pajarita Wilderness area east of the small ranch town of Ruby, and three others are missing. The captured smugglers had AK-47s and backpacks filled with ammunition, food and radios. There are rumors that three of the captured four are members of the Mexican military, but that is unconfirmed. Yet, it would not be the first time Mexican police and military have been apprehended smuggling drugs into the United States.
It is not widely reported by our news media that the smugglers maintain a dozen or more permanent lookout posts on desert hilltops inside the U.S., and that those lookout posts are manned in week-long shifts by individuals who commute not from Mexico but from Phoenix, Tucson and other Arizona cities.
The allegation that the Sinaloa drug cartel obtained those AK-47s from gun shops in the United States is nonsensical. That’s a fairy tale cooked up by the Obama administration and endorsed by the Mexican government because they do not want to admit that the cartels get most of their serious weaponry from the international black market and the Mexican military itself.
The rules requiring first use of bean-bag ammunition is but one example of the suicidal rules of engagement that govern Border Patrol operations. The reason they have such insane rules? The politicians who run the agency do not want the public to think the border is so dangerous a place that Border Patrol agents fear for their lives. In other words, the rules of engagement are based on a lie, a lie that must be maintained for political purposes.
Secretary Napolitano should do two things on Monday morning. First, she should order all Border Patrol agents to be issued weapons adequate for both self-defense and apprehension of armed drug smugglers. The second thing she should do Monday morning is resign.

What do you get when you merge two .45 caliber pistols into one with a sleek new design?
A whole lot of compact stopping power, also known as the Arsenal Firearms AF2011.

The folks over at the Firearms Blog found this incredible new design created by Arsenal Firearms, who provided these photos and the video below.
The AF team is clearly proud of their achievement, writing on their site that:

“To commemorate the legendary Colt 1911-A1 in the Centenary by making a true industrial market-ready double barrel .45 caliber pistol. We achieved success in the brief span of 6 months, after intense and round-the-clock 3D designing, stereolithographic modeling and parts machining.”

This is not an entirely new concept, and there have been many other double barrel pistols created in the past. In fact, ten years ago a Swiss armorer named Vivian Mueller cut and welded together parts of the storied Sig P210 for a similar effect. He successfully created a long slide, double barrel 9mm pistol that shot well. But the AF 2011 is the first time two pistols have been welded into one in a design that is shelf-ready and meant for sale.

That’s right — this model can be produced and sold in a mass market instead of just one-off collector pieces.
Now you may be wondering how the AF 2011 performs. Sure, it looks cool, and it certainly can throw rounds downrange, but what kind of patterns can it put on a target?

According to the AF team, the double barrel 2011 shoots cleanly and with good-enough accuracy:

“The gun can be handled by any shooter… [and] holds amazing and surprising target performance for the shooter: in fact, it will group all the 8 double .45 caliber rounds (16 bullets) held in the duplex, single columns magazines, in a target of the size of an orange at 15 yards and of a water melon at 25.”

Right after he finishes off some shots, the test shooter in the video describes the stopping power in his hands:

Feds Attack Family Farms. . . Again

Last summer The Blaze reported on the Obama administration’s double-pronged attack on family farms. This was seen in the new set of regulations coming from both the DOT and the Department of Labor.
The main focus of the new regulations proposed last year was on the operation of farm equipment. The DOT was trying to mandate that anyone operating a piece of mechanized farm equipment be subject to the same rules that apply to drivers of semi-tractor trailers. These changes would have essentially blocked all young people who work on family farms from operating even the smallest tractor or truck, unless those people would be able to pass the stringent tests and maintain the detailed logs that are required of truckers.
These rules would also open the door for the potential unionization of all farm workers in America. Even family farm workers.
During the comment period for the proposal,  the outcry from the farming communities seemed to bring clarity to the situation. However, the DOT and Labor Departments continued churning in the background, writing new and different rules that would soon surface. In August the new rules were posted. They proposed barring anyone under the age of 16 from performing dangerous jobs, like driving tractors, handling pesticides and even branding cattle. A december 1st deadline for public comments was set and the public responded with more than 18,000 comments.
After December 1, 2011, a bi-partisan group of 28 Senators and 70 members of the House sent a letter to the Secretary of Labor, complaining about the new rules and asking that they be withdrawn until such time as the Labor Dept can prove the rules will significantly improve the safety of youth workers while having no significant economic impact on the farms.

The Des Moines Star Register’s coverage featured some significant passages from the letter:

“After having additional time to review the Proposed Rule and compare the proposed changes to existing statutory law, regulations, and the Department’s existing interpretive documents, we believe initial concerns were well-founded. As a result of these concerns, we request the Department withdraw the Proposed Rule in its entirety,” the Senators state in a letter to Secretary Solis. “It is puzzling why the Department would suddenly propose changes to existing regulations, particularly considering the advancements in farm equipment and adoption of technologies that have improved operator safety in the last 35 years.”
The statement from the group said “until recently, farms jointly owned and operated by multiple family members had discretion over the responsibilities they gave their children on the farm. But the proposed rule change would do away with that freedom and extend the parental exemption to farms owned solely by a parent. It is common in rural America for siblings to jointly own and operate farms and for extended family and neighbors to participate in agriculture production. With this rule change, the government is proposing to tell farmers and ranchers: We know what’s best for your children, and what they should and should not be doing.”

The note cited the fact that the Labor Secretary was using statistics from 13 years ago. This outdated information regarding accidents in rural settings was flawed and did not reflect the latest safety innovations that have come to the farming world.
Despite the 18,000 comments and Congressional opposition, the regulations appear to be moving ahead as Solis has planned. Local farm communities are quite concerned that this. Here is one of the dozens of local news stories highlighting the problems this will create:
Yesterday, Secretary Solis testified before a Senate Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, and Pensions. Ms. Solis’ comments on the restrictions on family farms were brief, only stating that her department was open to hearing comments on the new regulations.
It should also be noted that today is the anniversary of the death of State Farming in the former Soviet Union.
On this day back in 1989, the USSR’s Communist party leader Mikhail Gorbachev announced that Central Farming was not working. This was underscored by the fact that his country was forced to import tons of staples like wheat and meat. Mr. Gorbachev sounded like a Free Market Capitalist when he told the Soviets:

“The essence of economic change in the countryside should be in granting farmers broad opportunities for displaying independence, enterprise, and initiative.”

Farmers would be granted the opportunity to be independent, enterprising and succeed or fail based on their own initiative. An interesting concept.

The evening was everything I had dreamed and hoped it would be. The weather was perfect, the farm was filled with friends and guests roaming around talking about organic, sustainable farming practices. Our guests were excited to spend an evening together. The food was prepared exquisitely. The long dinner table, under the direction of dear friends, was absolutely stunningly beautiful. The music was superb. The stars were bright and life was really good. And then, …for a few moments, it felt like the rug was pulled out from underneath us and my wonderful world came crashing down. As guests were mingling, finishing tours of the farm, and while the first course of the meal was being prepared and ready to be sent out, a Southern Nevada Health District employee came for an inspection.

Because this was a gathering of people invited to our farm for dinner, I had no idea that the Health Department would become involved. I received a phone call from them two days before the event informing me that because this was a “public event” (I would like to know what is the definition of “public” and “private”) we would be required to apply for a “special use permit.” If we did not do so immediately, we would be charged a ridiculous fine. Stunned, we immediately complied.
We were in the middle of our harvest day for our CSA shares, a very busy time for us, but Monte immediately left to comply with the demand and filled out the required paper work and paid for the fee. (Did I mention that we live in Overton, nowhere near a Health Department office?) Paper work now in order, he was informed that we would not actually be given the permit until an inspector came to check it all out. She came literally while our guests were arriving! In order to overcome any trouble with the Health Department of cooking on the premises, most of the food was prepared in a certified kitchen in Las Vegas; and to further remove any doubt, we rented a certified kitchen trailer to be here on the farm for the preparation of the meals.
The inspector, Mary Oaks, clearly not the one in charge of the inspection as she was constantly on the phone with her superior Susan somebody who was calling all the shots from who knows where.

We were told our food was unfit for consumption and demanded that we call off the event because:

1. Some of the prepared food packages did not have labels on them. (The code actually allows for this if it is to be consumed within 72 hours.)
2. Some of the meat was not USDA certified. (Did I mention that this was a farm to fork meal?)
3. Some of the food that was prepared in advance was not up to temperature at the time of inspection. (It was being prepared to be brought to proper temperature for serving when the inspection occurred.)
4. Even the vegetables prepared in advance had to be thrown out because they were cut and were then considered a “bio-hazard”.
5. We did not have receipts for our food. (Reminder! This food came from farms not from the supermarket! I have talked with several chefs who have said that in all their years cooking they have never been asked for receipts.)

At this time Monte, trying to reason with Susan to find a possible solution for the problem, suggested turning this event from a “public” event to a “private” event by allowing the guests to become part of our farm club, thus eliminating any jurisdiction or responsibility on their part. This idea infuriated Susan and threatened that if we did not comply the police would be called and personally escort our guests off the property. This is not the vision of the evening we had in mind! So regretfully, again we complied.

Bleach is poured on organic food

I can’t tell you how sick to my stomach I was watching that first dish of Mint Lamb Meatballs hit the bottom of the unsanitized trash can. Here we were with guests who had paid in advance and had come from long distances away anticipating a wonderful dining experience, waiting for dinner while we were behind the kitchen curtain throwing it away! I know of the hours and labor that went into the preparation of that food. We asked the inspector if we could save the food for a private family event that we were having the next day. (A personal family choice to use our own food.) We were denied and she was insulted that we would even consider endangering our families health. I assured her that I had complete faith and trust in Giovanni our chef and the food that was prepared, (obviously, or I wouldn’t be wanting to serve it to our guests).

Farm food is destroyed

I then asked if we couldn’t feed the food to our “public guests” or even to our private family, then at least let us feed it to our pigs. (I think it should be a criminal action to waste any resource of the land. Being dedicated to our organic farm, we are forever looking for good inputs into our compost and soil and good food that can be fed to our animals. The animals and compost pile always get our left over garden surplus and food. We truly are trying to be as sustainable as possible.) Again, a call to Susan and another negative response. Okay, so let me get this right. So the food that was raised here on our farm and selected and gathered from familiar local sources, cooked and prepared with skill and love was even unfit to feed to my pigs!?! Who gave them the right to tell me what I feed my animals? Not only were we denied the use of the food for any purpose, to ensure that it truly was unfit for feed of any kind we were again threatened with police action if we did not only throw the food in the trash, but then to add insult to injury, we were ordered to pour bleach on it.

Food Lined up to Be Destroyed by Health Department

Now the food is also unfit for compost as I would be negligent to allow any little critters to nibble on it while it was composting and ingest that bleach resulting in a horrible death. Literally hundreds of pounds of food was good for nothing but adding to our ever increasing land fill! At some point in all of this turmoil Monte reminded me that I had the emergency phone number for the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) on our refrigerator. I put it there never really believing that I would ever have to use it. We became members of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund several years ago as a protection for us, but mostly to add support to other farmers battling against the oppressive legal actions taken against the small farmers trying to produce good wholesome food without government intrusion. The local, sustainable food battle is being waged all across America! May I mention that not one battle has been brought on because of any illness to the patrons of these farms! The battles are started by government officials swooping down on farms and farmers like SWAT teams confiscating not only the wholesome food items produced but even their farm equipment! Some of them actually wearing HAZMAT suits as if they were walking into a nuclear meltdown! I have personally listened to some of their heart wrenching stories and have continued to follow them through the FTCLDF’s updates.

Now them ol’ Muslims got some gall alright.  They come to our country,bearly get one paw on the ground and they immediately start tryin’ to change our way of life.  They squawk about our laws, our money, our clothes, our personal lives and our religions.  Of course, I guess if they had a “real” religion themselves, they wouldn’t be so pissy.  Sure they can call it a religion all day long, but that don’t make it so.  What’s that deal, “You can put some powder face on a pig, but that sucker is still a pig.”  Yeah, something like that.  Well, you can walk around “religion” all day, but if you live in an Islamic cult, then it is still just a cult.

Anyway, there are a lot of ways to handle and discourage theses new settlers.  You can confront ‘em head on, like I often do or you can use a bit of a sneak attack.  I like to do that too.  Hey, but this fella in Houston, Texas used some Southern ingenuity to make his point.  I sure like what he done.

You see, he’s a taxi driver, name of Booger Bill Baxter.  Kind of a rough ol’ bird, but don’t mess with no one, less they mess with him first.  So, one day he was waitin’ on his next fare, when this full fledged, sheets from head to toe, Muslim gets in his cab.  The Muslim snaps, “To the Court House and I am in a bit of a hurry.”  Well Booger, already knowin’ how this was gonna go, politely replied, “Why yes sir.  Right away sir.”   He was just a grinnin’ and showin’ them pearly whites the whole time too.

They only went a few miles, when Mr. Muzzy said, “I must request that you turn your radio off.  I cannot hear music as instructed by Mohammad.  You see, in his time there was no music and certainly no radio.  I must obey.  Now silence it!”, so ol’ Booger, still showin’ them pearly whites, turns his radio off.   He then stops his cab, gets out, walks around to the Muzzy’s side and opens the door. 

The Muslim shouts, “What are you doing?”  Booger, still smilin’ and grinnin’, says, “Well, you see Mr. Muslim man, back in the time of your prophet there were no taxi cabs, so you need to get your butt out of my cab and wait here for a camel.  You have a great day, okay.”  Then Booger slowly walks around to his side, gets in his cab and drives off while waving out the window.

Yes sir, in Texas, you find really smart folks in the most unlikely places.  Good luck to ya Booger and I sure hope I’m lucky enough to get your cab next time I’m in Houston.  Oh yeah, I sure hope none of you Muslim cult members get offended by this.  You know, you being real “peaceful” folks and all.

Obama calls oil a 'fuel of the past'

President Barack Obama made his most urgent appeal yet Wednesday for the nation to wean itself off oil, calling it a "fuel of the past" and demanding that the United States broaden its approach to energy.

So great news! The president just spared you from having to fill your gas tank this week or ever again. That's in the past.

And why shouldn't Barack smile: He wants higher gas prices.

The truth is, oil (and natural gas and coal) provide reliable and affordable energy. Jimmy Carter claimed in the 1970s that we'd start running out of oil by the 1980s but three decades later America's known oil reserves have increased not decreased.

Want energy? Allow Americans to develop all forms: oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, corn, solar, wind, whatever but get the government out of the way. First, remove the regulatory hurdles that make losers of us all. And second, end every dime of corporate welfare that picks winners and losers. Simple math: If an energy supplier can't produce enough energy to pay its own bills, then it can't produce enough energy to supply our needs. Duh.
