Jason Buck is a nationally recognized conservative spokesman and inspirational business owner. His story of perseverance and triumph exemplifies the American “can do” spirit.
Growing up in a farming family, Jason watched as bankers auctioned off his father’s farm equipment after several bad harvests depleted the family’s finances. He slept under a hay truck with his family when they had no home.
Jason was always determined to change his life and achieve his dream of playing in the NFL. He walked on as a quarterback at the local junior college, but did not earn a scholarship to pay for tuition and expenses. Undaunted, Jason went to work at the local seed mill throwing grain sacks for 9 hour shifts then lifted weights at the college until late into the evenings. After 2 years of hard work and sacrifice, he got his scholarship to play defensive line at Ricks Junior College.
In Jason’s sophomore year, he was named the National Junior College Defensive player of the year and quickly became the number one recruited junior college player in the nation. After turning down scholarships from nationally renowned programs at Ohio State University, University of Texas and University of Alabama, Jason followed his heart and accepted a scholarship at BYU. He became the only consensus Defensive All-American in the history of BYU, and he won the Football Writers Association of America’s Outland Trophy as the best down lineman in the nation.
Jason was drafted in the 1st round by the Cincinnati Bengals and played for them in Super Bowl XXIII. He finished his NFL career with the Washington Redskins where he won the World Championship in Super Bowl XXVI.
After retiring from the NFL, Jason owned and worked a 650-acre ranch in Manti, UT, and eventually relocated to Highland to where he became partner in a growing financial services company. Jason has remained active in the football world as an analyst and commentator for the regional ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX networks while coaching both his son’s football teams and daughter’s softball teams.
Jason Buck’s family has deep roots in the Utah area. His ancestors arrived in Nauvoo, IL, from England and then moved to Utah with the earliest pioneers. Jason was born in Moses Lake, WA, to a family of ten children. When he was three years old his father moved the family to Michigan to farm potatoes and at nine years old, moved again to Adrian, OR.
Jason’s family moved again his senior year of high school to St. Anthony, ID, where he met his wife-to-be, Roxi. The two were married in the summer of 1983, and raised a beautiful family together. Jason and Roxi have always made family their top priority, and they enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Jason’s challenges and successes have forged a steadfast belief in perseverance, faith, and a strong work ethic. These are the experiences and qualities that Jason shares when he frequently speaks to large audiences at universities, corporations, and other groups throughout the United States.
For Jason Buck, no challenge is too great and no problem is too big. That driving outlook, combined with rock solid conservative principles, will make Jason Buck a very effective Member of Congress.
What Jason says about these Issues:
Constitutional Authority
Our founding fathers established in the U.S. Constitution very specific, limited roles for the national government, chief among these being the charge to protect the liberties of the people. That limited role was born of King George’s legions of tax collectors, regulators and bureaucrats, which were, as Jefferson penned in the Declaration of Independence, ‘eating out our substance.’
But, today our federal government would put King George to shame. The huge volume of mandates, taxes, fees, regulations and bureaucratic oversight of our daily lives is far from the framework given by our founders.
I love and respect our Country, its people and its history. I believe our Constitution was inspired in its creation. That’s why I can no longer stand by while Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and others destroy the fabric of our government and run-up historic debt that threatens our children’s future.
When the stimulus bill was passed, it immediately became the biggest and most expensive failure in America history – only to be surpassed a few months later by the massive Obamacare disaster.
We must make an immediate change!
In Congress, I’ll fight for a leaner, smaller, and constitutionally limited federal government – one that is pro-free-market, pro-taxpayer, pro-family, and fiscally sound.
Economy and Jobs
For too long, the powers in Washington D.C. have felt that they have the ability through more government spending and intervention to create jobs and generate economic activity better than the free-market. Nothing could be further from the truth.
To be able to have long term, sustained growth, which in turn will create more jobs and get our economy back on track, we need to get government out of the way of the people who know best. You. You are the engine to the economy.
The federal government has hampered your ability to start businesses, create wealth and prosperity for your families as well as stifling innovation.
I promise that I will fight everyday if elected to get government out of the free market.
I will fight to undo job killing regulations.
I will fight to stop crony capitalism and the federal government picking of winners and losers.
I will fight to stop the bailouts of the businesses who got us into this mess.
I will fight to allow Utah to extract its rich mineral resources.
I will fight to make it easier for businesses to bring their profits back to our country from overseas.
If we do these things, we will create jobs and get this economy back on track.
Government Budget and Spending
\
Our national debt now stands at over fifteen trillion dollars, an amount equal to nearly forty nine thousand dollars for every single American. Our children will be saddled with this untenable debt for the rest of their lives.
In Congress, I will fight to immediately balance the budget. That includes emergency spending cuts to all non-essential government departments. I will also fight to pass the balance budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution so that our elected officials can never again put our Nation at financial risk.
The Republican Congress was elected in 2010 on a promise to control our nation’s spending and balance this budget. Like most of my neighbors, I’m frustrated at the progress so far. In Congress, I will fight for swift and immediate action on balancing the Nation’s budget.
Taxes & Fees
I oppose raising taxes. Period. Our taxes are already too high. And, if we’re going to attract and keep American companies on American soil, we must have competitive tax rates with the rest of the world.
I’m tired of hearing Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama blame our nation’s debt problems on the tax rate. Their ‘tax the rich’ class warfare is simply a tactic to mask their own wasteful spending.
In Congress, I will fight for tax reform that makes the IRS tax code fair, flat and equitable. Our tax code should reward success and entrepreneurship and should incentivize investment in American workers and ideas. And, our tax code should be easy to understand.
Illegal Immigration
Before we can address the illegal immigration crisis, we must first get control of our Nation’s borders. Until we take that step, we won’t be able to solve this problem, yet it amazes me that Washington cannot even get this done.
In Congress, I’ll fight to complete a permanent, impenetrable border fence between the US and Mexico. I’ll also push for policies that place our National Guard on the border to defend our citizens against Mexican drug cartels. There’s simply no reason why Arizona families should fear kidnapping and violence from Mexican drug lords.
I oppose taxpayer funded handouts to illegal aliens, including welfare and college tuition. We cannot afford to bankrupt the system any longer.
Healthcare
In Congress, I will fight for an immediate and complete repeal of Obamacare. We cannot afford this expensive and socialist program. Nor can we afford to have government bureaucrats determining who lives, and who dies.
I hope I am joined by a newly elected Republican President and Republican Senate so that we can repeal this law on the first day of the new Congress.
Private Property & Utah Lands
Our constitutional republic is founded on the right to own property, and our government should be focused on protecting that right. I’ll fight to strengthen private property rights, and that includes reforming the Endangered Species Law which radical environmentalists are now using to tie the hands of private property owners.
I will also fight to return Utah public lands to Utah control. Utah residents know how best to manage and conserve our forests and public lands, from the sportsman/hunter to the lumber industry and ranchers, to the hiker and camper. Our local residents have the biggest stake in properly managing our lands. We do not need a UC Berkley graduate living in Washington D.C. telling us how to manage our lands.
Second Amendment
I’m a member of the National Rifle Association and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. I believe law abiding citizens should have the right to keep and bear arms for hunting, self-protection, and any other lawful activity.
Life, Family, and Marriage
I am pro-life, pro-family and support preserving marriage as the union between one man and one woman. I will serve Utah families in Congress as a champion for issues important to the very existence of our culture and society.
Honoring Veterans
My father served in the Navy and my brothers served in the Army. I’ve seen the sacrifices that our soldiers gladly make to train and prepare for a war that we all hope will never come.
In Congress, I will ensure that America respects and cares for our veterans. There’s no excuse to do otherwise. Those who serve America should be honored for their duty to our safety and our republic. Without them, we would not enjoy the freedoms we have today.
